The Sadducees were a Jewish group of the Second tabernacle period. They were the priestly, blue party in Judaism, whose interests centred in the Temple, And are know on the basis of three sources: the writings of the first light speed historian Josephus, the New Testament and rabbinical writings. No existent writings can be traced to the Sadducees themselves. Two main hypotheses brood regarding the linage and meaning of the word Sadducee. The first suggests they derived their name from a Hebraical word meaning just or powerfuleous, because their name meaning the just ones. The other proposes they were descendants of Zadok, a high priest who served during the reigns of David and Solomon and who became the fa ther of the Jewish priesthood . This would give them the refine to worship in the Temple and would subsequently give them prepotency as Jewish priests. In contrast the Pharisees were a Jewish religious party whose membership was largely lay.
